Dean looks over at Gabriel's approach, the fire in his hand flaring higher and brighter momentarily to help him identify the other man. It wasn't like he expected anybody else to be out here, but other imPorts seemed to wander wherever they wanted and it wasn't like he could be too careful out here. There were infrequent posts to the network about unfriendly imPorts, after all. But it was just Gabriel. The flame goes out with a thought (and without any sort of flourish or other action that might have accompanied the extinguishing fire a month ago.)

He steps closer to Gabriel, an eyebrow raised in question and, perhaps, a bit of incredulity as well. "Accelerants? You're saying you want to mess around with gasoline or something?"

And as much bravado as Dean tries to put on about the entire thing, he can't stop himself from looking uncertain at the prospect of messing with something flammable when he's barely got the basics down well enough to not burn his clothes anymore. He'll give it a shot if Gabriel thinks this is the best next step - the other man hasn't let him down yet - but Dean is pretty sure he's not ready for this.

A moment later and any signs of his lingering doubts are gone, masked under false bravado and a smirk. "What'd you have in mind?"

It had to be said that he was putting his life at risk helping Dean with his abilities. He'd been burned very slightly now and again, though he'd healed up just fine. It was worth it. It would be worth it. When this power was his - this ability - he'd be in place to demonstrate how powerful, how lethal, it could be.

But a few burns were well deserved in the process. The fire almost seemed to dislike him, which wasn't much of a surprise.

He crouched down, pulling open his bag and taking out a can of hairspray, giving it a quick shake as he showed it to Dean. The wide burst of flammable polymers would be immensely flammable once airborne.

"It'll help us get two things down. If you can see how the projectile feels, you can work back from it to manipulating your own flame. And this will make the fire more intense. It'll raise the bar to the next level." He cocked his head to one side. "You know how it is. Once you've played in hard mode, easy will be water off a duck's back. You want to go?"

The burns that Gabriel had gotten from the fire were a bit of an embarrassment for Dean. He was supposed to be learning control, but the fire seemed to pick up on the fact that he didn't entirely trust the other man and reacted accordingly. Unfortunately, Gabriel hadn't exactly given Dean a reason to be lashing out and the entire situation had resulted in several awkward apologies. If they're lucky, the whole flaming projectiles thing won't come back to bite - or burn - them on the ass.

"I'm game." The confident smirk is still there. Dean should probably ask a few more questions and make sure he's got everything down before they start, but if Gabriel's confident enough to try this out, Dean sure as hell isn't going to ask a million questions about it.

He coaxs a small flame to form on the finger tips of one hand, the tendrils curling up and licking at his palm. They're almost a comfort now that Dean isn't quite so wary of them.

"All right. Shoot."

No questions is good. Gabriel is all about testing things and seeing where they take him, but then he has the advantage of natural intuition. He's rarely had trouble getting the hang of abilities, and only with things that are generally debilitating to their users, like superhearing. It was hard to switch that one off at first.

The fire is beautiful. Not as lovely as controlling ice, which killed without harm, but beautiful in its own way.

He stepped up by Dean's right shoulder, relying on him not to let the flame come back at himself, ergo Sylar's proximity meant it would stay away from him too, then he raised the hairspray and pressed the plunger down, releasing a steady spray.

"When you've ignited it, draw your hand away, then try and focus on moving the flame still inside the spray. Just try and bend it."

The initial concept is simple enough. Dean's dealt with fire and hairspray as a hunter and he expects the initial outward burst of flame when he raises his hand into the hairspray mist. It flares outward, bright and more intense through the air with the aid of an accelerant. There's a moment where Dean can feel his control slipping and in an effort to get the fire back under control, he pulls hard and the flames rush up his arm, a few tendrils flickering out and lashing towards Gabriel before Dean wrestles it back it his hand and allows the flame to flow outwards again.

"Shit. Sorry." He glances over his shoulder to make sure that Gabriel isn't actively on fire before turning him attention back to the flaming air in front of them. "You okay?"

Dean doesn't wait for an answer before he lets the fire curl into the air until it's not touching his hands anymore. It's an amazing feeling - powerful - and for a moment it feels... Complete before Dean pulls back and the flames die down slightly. But it was still something.
